Mashable, the web’s leading information source for everything Internet and social media related, declared the day Social Media day. Around the world people gathered together to celebrate and discuss the impact social media has had on their lives.Listen to Pete Cashmore, the founder of Mashable, as he discusses a little bit about Social Media day in the below video.

Here in Phoenix an event was put together over at MadCap Theater in Tempe. Abby, Alix, and myself attended the festivities which included food, a band, sponsors giving out prizes, and networking. We got there a little bit late, but were able to stay for a wee bit and hear some interesting stories from local folks active in social media. So, why should you care that we went to some weird geek Social Media Day? Because I said so….well and because: social media truly has impacted our lives in so many ways. For instance, did you know that AZPRC’s very own Abby won a $1,000 scholarship and ultimately a full time, salaried gig at Vertical Measures because of social media? There are so many other stories just like Abby’s that express how social media has changed lives, improved in-real-life social lives, added some cash to wallets, or even just kept people busy on a Friday night.
